Asphalt Shingle Roof (GAF)
Asphalt roofing shingles come in 2 forms: organic and fiberglass. Both are relatively affordable, require simple installation, and are durable.
Organic roofing shingles are made by combining paper with asphalt, including adhesive asphalt, and clay particles are added to the top layer of the shingle. All organic shingles are waterproof, and there are also those that are algae- and moss-proof, which utilize copper coating.
Fiberglass roofing shingles are made by combining urea-formaldehyde resin with wet fiberglass. Like organic shingles, the asphalt coating makes fiber glass shingles water-proof as well. Moreover, fiber glass shingle roofs are highly resistant to fire.
